Volunteering
Volunteer Interpreter Group (Bogoshiensha)
This group provides interpreting and translation to assist people who don’t speak Japanese. Assistance is available for city hall procedures, school interviews, children’s periodical health checkups, shopping, etc. Interpreting/translation related to business or medical situations are not possible. Requests for assistance are emailed to registered volunteers who then decide if the request suits their schedule and/or language ability.

Spanish Classes (2024)
【Chuo Kominkan】
This 10 week course was led by a former JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer who was stationed in Paraguay. Participants studied Spanish for the first time, learning basic pronunciation, essential vocabulary, and expressions used in daily life.
Book Club Eikaiwa (2023)
【Chuo Kominkan】
During the 10 week course, participants took on the challenge of reading beloved children’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in English. Several chapters of reading were assigned each week. In class, participants engaged in group discussions based on themes in the book as well as plenty of pair work to hone their English communication skills. On the last day of class, everyone gathered to watch the movie version in English. The course was led by Takasaki CIR Alex Takahashi.
Murder Mystery Eikaiwa (July, 2022)

This spooky event had participants roleplaying characters in “Mystery at Mr. Grim’s Mansion”, a classic whodunit story with a twist ending. Led by Takasaki CIR Alex Takahashi, participants interviewed each other in English as they tried to figure out what really happened that fateful night at Mr. Grim’s mansion.
